Winter Storm Brings Record Snowfall to Northeast
A massive winter storm has blanketed the Northeast United States with record snowfall, causing widespread travel disruptions, school closures, and power outages across multiple states.
New York City recorded 18 inches of snow, the highest single-day total in over five years, while Boston faced even more severe conditions with 24 inches. The storm, which meteorologists are calling "Winter Storm Orion," stretched from Pennsylvania to Maine, affecting over 50 million people.
Governors in New York, New Jersey, Connecticut, and Massachusetts declared states of emergency, urging residents to stay off the roads. More than 5,000 flights were canceled nationwide, with major airports including JFK, LaGuardia, and Logan International experiencing significant disruptions.
Utility companies reported over 300,000 customers without power at the peak of the storm, with restoration efforts expected to take several days in the hardest-hit areas. Emergency crews worked through the night to clear roads and respond to emergencies.
The National Weather Service warned that another storm system could bring additional snow to the region later this week, though it's expected to be less severe than the current system.
